Peacock Garden of Warwick Castle

The Lord Lieutenant, Tim Cox, and the Vice Lord Lieutenant, Sue Saunders were invited to the Peacock Garden of Warwick Castle by the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers.  The Regiment was raised 350 years ago in 1674 and in 1782 became known as 6th(1st Warwickshire) Regiment.  In 1963 the Regiment joined the Fusilier Brigade and became known as the Royal Warwickshire Fusiliers.

For over 200 years the mascot of the Warwickshire Fusiliers has been the Blackbuck Antelope - the only wild animal mascot of any Regiment. The antelope is now on the  protected list and therefore since 2005, for animal welfare reasons, the Regiment no longer has a live Indian antelope.

A bronze statue of Bobby the Blackbuck was unveiled by the Colonel in Chief of the Regiment, HRH The Duke of Kent. The magnificent bronze statue, standing at overr 2.5 metres tall, was the idea of Colonel Richard Cariss and was created by the sculptor Knox Field.
